Counselor’s Corner

From Mrs. Barnes:
Below is an excerpt from Love and Logic’s Jim Fay.  For more information on this topic, give me a call or stop by sometime.

“Do you know people who are trying to create a perfect environment for their children? Are they more concerned about getting the world to adjust to their kids than they are about helping their kids learn to cope with and deal with the world as it exists today?

In spite of the efforts of many to create a perfect country where no one will ever be offended, where bad decisions will have limited consequences, where good outcomes are guaranteed regardless of effort and sacrifice, and where kids never have less than the neighbors’ kids, our kids are still living in a world that requires effort and resilience.

Our love for our kids tempts us to do all we can to make their childhood better than ours. It tempts us to try to eliminate disappointment, struggle, and inconvenience from their lives.”

Love and Logic is a method of training children to be responsible for their actions.  I have materials and information that I am ready and willing to share with Strong Rock parents.

lives a little easier in 2016.   Take a look at just a few of the:

50 Top Parenting Tricks and Hacks

That Will Make Life Easier and More Fun

FAMILY LIFESTYLE BY ANGELINA CLEROUX

  1. Add a lint rollerto your craft room.  A lint roller picks up glitter (and just about anything else) like a charm!
  2. Keep a spray bottle in the car for hot days to avoid scorching seat belts buckles.  Use a fine mist spray to cool buckles.  Water does not have to be cool, the evaporation will cool plastic and metal.
  3. To get your kids to put their shoes on the correct feet, cut a sticker in half and place it on the insides of their shoes.
  4. Make splinter removals less painful.  Put a paste of baking soda and water on a splinter and leave for a few minutes, the baking soda will push the splinter out saving your child an unnecessarily painful splinter removal.
  5. Use a pizza box as a giant sized canvas.
  6. Use toothpaste to clean permanent marker off wooden furniture.
