Super Scientist Merrell brought in an orange to perform a sink and float activity. She had the class predict what would happen to the orange when placed in the water. She placed the orange in the bucket and it floated on the water. Next, she peeled the orange. The class predicted what would happen and saw that the orange without the peel sunk in the water. She told us that this happened because the peel holds air so it is like wearing a life jacket. That’s why it sunk without the peel. The students enjoyed this experiment.
