Prather was Super Scientist in Mrs. C’s class, and he taught the class that things will float easier in salt water than in fresh water. Prather explained the differences between salt water and fresh water. He also listed sources of each type of water. He asked the students for predictions…will a peanut float in salt water or fresh water? The peanut sunk to the bottom of the fresh water and floated in the salt water! That is why we float better in the ocean than we do in a lake!
Prather also created a leak-proof bag! He filled a plastic bag up with water and sealed it. Then, he pushed a pencil all the way through the bag! Guess what! The bag did not leak!!! The long chains of molecules that make up the bag squeeze in tight around the surface of the pencil preventing any sort of leak. The students loved this science “trick.”
Great job, Super Scientist Prather!
